The Charno Residence occupies a 10 acre wooded and meadow site partially cleared by a wildfire two decades ago in the High Desert of Central Oregon.  The region's harsh climate of 100+ degree summer days with sub zero winter temperatures and the ever present intense sunshine were key factors that influenced the building's layout.  The home exists in a strictly controlled homeowners association with a strong aversion to 'contemporary architecture'. The home strikes a balance between open, light, flowing interior spaces with a more traditional, yet cleanly detailed exterior.  Multiple outdoor spaces are integrated into the homes design to allow for both larger group gatherings and more intimate opportunities to enjoy the ever present wildlife and mountain views.  Patios on all four sides of the home allow for time to be spent outside at different times of day throughout most if the areas seasons, both protected and exposed, as the mood and weather suits.
