The Broken Top house sits in a well established, relatively conservative golf community in Central Oregon.  Design guidelines restricted the home's exterior to traditional vernacular.  The clients expressed an interest in juxtaposing the traditional shell with an exceptionally light, bright, open interior.  Walnut flooring, doors and cabinetry contrast the white smooth-wall plaster, creating a serene, calm, and brilliantly day-lit interior.  The home's interior was conceived as a place to display an art collection; a home art gallery.  Large planes of blank wall and diffused day lighting work in conjunction to create a gallery like effect, appropriate for many scales of art display.
